This shift leaves the public divided—some feeling confused, while others become more convinced that the sangoma gift is a misguided path. A sangoma can choose a new path. While their calling is deeply rooted in ancestral guidance and spiritual responsibility, personal evolution and free will always play a role in one's journey.

Some Sangomas may transition into different spiritual practices, integrate their knowledge into modern healing or psychology, or even step away entirely if they feel their path is leading them elsewhere.
